Secularism

Written by Markandey Katju

Secularism has to be a two way traffic
When I criticised the BJP for polarising society and atrocities against Muslims, when I called most Hindus stupid for calling cow gomata ( since an animal cannot be a mother of a human being ) and for looking down on dalits, and when I said building Ram Mandir was just a gimmick and diversionary tactic to divert public attention from the real problems of the Indian people like poverty, unemployment, child malnourishment, skyrocketing prices, lack of healthcare, etc, most Muslims clapped and praised me to the sky.
But when I condemned the things which kept Muslims backward like sharia, burqa, madarsas, and maulanas, most Muslims abused me with filthy abuses, not even caring that I am their grandfathers age.
When I condemn Hindu fundamentalism, most Muslims applaud. But when I condemn Muslim fundamentalism they abuse. According to most Muslims, secularism must be a one way traffic. Hindu fundamentalism must certainly be condemned, but the moment you condemn Muslim fundamentalism you become communal
