The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition by actor Kangana Ranaut to quash the defamation proceedings initiated against her. The complaint was filed by bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar. The High Court reserved its order in Ranaut’s plea on September 1.

In an interview Kangana Ranaut had reportedly told Republic TV’s journalist Arnab Goswami that Akhtar was part of a “suicide gang” and that “he can get away with pretty much anything in Mumbai”.

Javed Akhtar had filed the complaint against Kangana Ranaut in November 2020 to the Andheri metropolitan magistrate for allegedly making defamatory and baseless comments against him in a television interview given to journalist Arnab Goswami.

Javed Akhtar had accused Kangana Ranaut of causing “damage” to his reputation. He had said in his complaint that each and every allegation and imputation made in the interview is false, defamatory, malicious, and has been made with reckless disregard to the truth.
