Today the festival of Eid will be celebrated with great celebration

Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated on Tuesday 3 May, following the sighting of the crescent moon on Monday in India.

Muslims across globe celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on the first day of Shawal, the tenth month of Hijri Calender (Islamic calender based on moon, it consists of 12 lunar months) . It's to mark the end of ninth month, Ramadan; a month of fasting during which Muslims offer special prayer known as Tarawih prayer, perform charitable deeds, seek blessing and forgiveness for sins .

On Eid-ul- Fitr there is an even stronger focus on poor people; for them there is Zakat-ul-Fitr, which is mandatory for every Muslim and has to be donated earlier during the month of Ramadan or before Eid-UL-Fitr prayers, so that poor people will also start preparing for Eid Celebration at earliest.

Muslims usually start the day by waking up early in the morning, wearing new clothes, applying perfume and gathering in the local Masjid or Eid-gah (outdoor prayer ground) to perfirm Eid prayer. After prayers Muslims exchange Eid greetings with each other by saying "EID MUBARAK" . This translate as "Happy eid" or "Blessed eid".

A large variety of savory foods usually complement the Eid meal in which family gather for lunch/dinner, people pay visit to relatives exchange gifts sweets, kids get gift as EIDI (which is usually cash ).
