After reporting 12 cases of cholera in Nepal including 7 new cases, Nepal’s Health and Population Ministry banned Pani puri in Lalitpur in Nepal.

Lalitpur is a Metropolitan city in Nepal Kathmandu valley. After the rapid increase of cholera cases in Lalitpur, authorities decided to ban the beloved street food Pani puri last week. According to local administration, the bacteria of cholera were found in the water of Pani puri sellers.

The patients suffering from cholera are being diagnosed at Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital at Teku. Eight patients were discharged after recovery. Still, some of the patients are going under treatment.

Due to an insufficient supply of secure drinking water and unhygienic conditions, Nepal has become endemic to cholera. According to a report, every year during the month of monsoon from May to September Nepal has recorded 30,000 cases and 911 deaths.

Cholera is a highly infectious disease. Symptoms of cholera are fatigue, irritability, sunken eyes, thirst, dry mouth and skin, low urinating, shock, seizures, and low blood pressure among other things. It causes severe diarrhoea and vomiting, which lead to dehydration and a person can die within an hour if not treated immediately.
