In 1994 the Human Development Report introduced a new concept of Human Security.
Human Security is a human right and this involves Security of humans from prolonged crisis, natural disasters, violent conflicts, prolonged poverty, economic downturns and epidemics.
The Human Security has 7 fundamental Elements :
1.Economic Security
2.Food Security
3.Health Security
4.Environmental Security
5.Personal Security
6.Community Security
7.Political Security
Human Security is a universal concern. It doesn't matter whether we hail from a rich or poor country, our security should be the primary concern.
Economic Security :
Economic Security is about the ability of individuals, households and communities to meet their essential and basic needs which includes food, shelter, clothing, education and livelihood. Government economic security programs such as food assistance, tax credits and housing subsidies can keep many children above the poverty line.
Food Security :
India came in the 76th rank amongst 113 countries in The Global Food Security Index ( GFSI) in 2018. This was judged on 4 basis Availability, affordability, quality and safety. According to the UN basically Food Security means all the people should always have access to healthy, nutritious food with no cases of malnutrition.
Health Security :
The main aim of Health Security is to provide people complete access to Healthcare, emergency medication, vaccination and epidemic control.
Environmental Security :
This showcases the threats we can face due to nuclear waste contamination, fuel waste, depletion of energy resources, degradation. Our environment plays a huge role in keeping us alive and climate change is a big topic of concern. We can secure our environment by recycling, volunteer clean ups, conserving water, planting a tree etc.
Personal Security :
This refers to the safety of Human beings so that they can live a healthy and content life without fearing anyone or anything.
Community Security :
Community security refers to carrying out human Security, human development and local level state building concepts. The idea is to keep people secure from sectarian and ethnic violence. Harmony in community is very important for a harmonious life.
Political Security :
Political Security involves violation of human rights, government repression and menace from militarization.
Human Security basically aims at expanding people's freedom. This works both ways by protecting the people from critical and dangerous threats and also giving people the power to take charge of their own life.
