How To recognise which Learning Style a student needs?

Learning is an ongoing process and everyone has a different style of learning. Learning Style is basically an individual's personal preference on how they want to learn and remember new information.

There are 4 different types of Learning styles known as VARK

1.Visual

2.Auditory

3.Read/write

4.Kinesthetics

Visual Learning

Visual learners mostly learn by reading and watching pictures. Nowadays teachers use visual methods for teaching like whiteboards, colourful handouts, images, presentations etc. There are almost 65% of children that are comfortable with visual learning. It has been observed that children retained 60 percent of the knowledge received by visuals.

Auditory Learning

This type of learning means that a student learns more productively by listening. They will be more comfortable in listening to a lecture rather than reading it. Auditory Learning helps in developing a child's thinking, comprehension skills and critical listening. Almost 30 percent of children respond better to auditory learning.

Read and Write Learning

These learners primarily learn by reading and writing. The Students can not understand by watching or listening to a lecture; rather they would write everything in their own words and read out loud to remember. They are very good at making notes and this type of learning makes it easy for a student to remember.

Kinesthetic learning

These kinds of learners need physical activities to learn rather than reading, watching or listening. For eg. they would ride on a cycle to learn rather than watching a tutorial or reading any manual. Some activities which are used in schools include building blocks, puzzles, moulding clay for shapes, abacus, puppets, computers. At some point it gets difficult for a child to comprehend as they tend to struggle during lectures.

How to identify a student's learning style?

Each school should incorporate every style of learning in their agenda. There should be whiteboards and more visual presentations. Teachers should allow every child to speak and give their opinion. There should be enough reading material for read and write learners to understand their lecture and finally there should be some activity involved for kinesthetic learners to get involved.

Every child has a different style of learning and if they are given the opportunity to learn the way they want it will be beneficial for their future
