THE SOCIOLOGY OF MASS MEDIA AND SOCIAL MEDIA.

" It's a dialogue, not a monologue, and some people don't understand that. Social media is more like a telephone, than a television.

Mass media is communication—whether written, broadcast, or spoken—that reaches a large audience. This includes television, radio, advertising, movies, the Internet, newspapers, magazines, and so forth.

Mass media is a significant force in modern culture, particularly in America. Sociologists refer to this as a mediated culture where media reflects and creates the culture. Communities and individuals are bombarded constantly with messages from a multitude of sources including TV, billboards, and magazines, to name a few. These messages promote not only products, but moods, attitudes, and a sense of what is and is not important.

Communication is viewed as the central part of consciousness. According to sociological analysis, Mass media have an impact on social structure and vice-versa. Mass media is a large-scale organization which reaches its audience through technologies, while social media refers to computer based technologies that enables users to create, share content or participate in it.

Sociology is the study of society and human behaviour, therefore, communication is rooted deep in society.

Since, media impacts it has 3 motives:

•To make people read

•understand and

•React.

MARSHALL McLuhan states the importance of choosing a right medium to impart message to the society is essential. Medium influences the general public.

Social media has helped many businesses grow and promote itself, and has found a better way to communicate and interact with each other whether it's a news, mental health issue, music, podcast, social awareness and more.

The mass media gives us pros and cons of a particular subject like elections, where it came from, what is the idea of the party, should we vote or not?

Therefore, mass media plays a vital role in giving information and influencing social media platforms too.

CONCLUSION :

Mass Media and social media interact with each other, cause they are not different from each other.

Thus, news can only be seen on Television before it evolved but now through various platforms we are able to connect and view comments of each other to make the correct decision.
